Third Annual Car City - September 16-17, 2016

The Ignitions were on and the Engines were Revved ……….Family Promise of Greater Houston County held its Third Annual CAR CITY event Friday evening, September 16, 2016 at Central Georgia Technical College. Volunteers and community leaders spent a night in their cars to experience homelessness and raise awareness for homeless children and their families in Houston County. Although a serious need in our community, the event featured a night of fun and entertainment along with a bit of education.

We were excited to have Nashville entertainer Colby Dee and TV/movie actor Jerad Leland join us this year! They were each big hits and had long lines waiting for autographs and photo ops. PLUS, they BOTH spent the night in their cars. Our MC for the evening, Amanda Miliner, 2015 Georgia Teacher of the Year , did an outstanding job of keeping the entertainment moving and inviting folks to the stage to share about Family Promise. She even took a turn in the Dunk Booth as did our President, Dave Razo. As 2007 Miss Georgia for the Miss America pageant, 2008 Miss Georgia USA, and many others, Amanda's first love is teaching and she carries that over in her support of homeless children and their families. Mayor Randy Toms joined us again as did WR Councilman Tim Thomas. Check out the videos below for performers who were on tap for the evening including: Jadis Marcum, Destined 4 Greatness, Melanie Woods, Miss Northside High School, Grace Thomas, Miss Outstanding Teen, SE GA, Darla Davis, Miss Gerogia Forestry, Keerti Soundappan, 2017 Miss Warner Robins Outstanding Teen, Mary Grace Moore, 2017 Miss Macon Outstanding Teen, Heart of Georgia Barbershop Chorus, and Faith, Hope & Love Trio. Our delicious Soup Line was again provided by Scout Troop 566, and we were amazed at the table of homemade cookies by local Girl Scouts 60185. Throughout the evening attendees were treated to Mustangs on display by the Central GA Mustang Club and the Flag City Mustang Club in addition to two hot rod racers from Emmett Head Performance Racers. Jumpy houses were available and the Dunk Booth was keep busy. Other activities included an outdoor movie, The Persuit of Happyness”, popcorn, Smore's provided by KAZ sorority, and a Flashlight Scavenger Hunt. Breakfast for some 65 overnighters was provided by Chick Fil A and Bruce Caphart of Christ UMC.

CAR CITY was also a fund raiser………overnight participants obtain sponsors to pay for their “Parking Space” for a minimum of $100 per vehicle. Each $100 or more individual donor received a tee-shirt. Event Sponsors, BetrOptions and Central Georgia Technical College [in-kind] “Set the Pace” for Businesses, organizations, and individuals who sponsored “Parking Lots” – Diamond Sponsors, the “Priority Lot”; Ruby Sponsors, the “Prime Lot”; Sapphire Sponsors, the “Reserved Lot”; and Emerald Sponsors, the “Fleet Lot”. See the list of great advance sponsors below….many others contributed that night. Those who just wanted to come to participate for an evening of fun and entertainment were asked to make a minimum donation of $10. Our total profits for the evening were $19,667.71…Thank You Houston County!

Many Thanks to those who Participate in any Way!
